Carry on the Past and Open A Way for Future
The 40th anniversary of School of Public Administration(SPA), UIBE was celebrated at International Meeting Hall at 3th floor of Chengxin Building at 10:00am May 30. The following people attended this celebration: Li Kenong, Deputy Director of Economic Committee, CPPCC, and President of China Customs Institute, and former Deputy Party Secretary and Deputy Director of General Administration of Customs and our Grade 1977 Alumni; Shi Jianjun, President of UIBE; Feng Dinglun, President of Information Cooperation Association of Chinese Cross-Strait Industry and former PFP legislator; Prof. Dong Keyong, Secretary of National MPA Education Steering Committee; representatives from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University, National School of Administration and other domestic well-known universities; each departments; leaders of departments; alumni representatives; retired teachers; teachers and students from UIBE, more than 200 people in total. The celebration was chaired by Teng Yun, head of the Party Committee of School of Public Administration.

At the Anniversary Conference, student representatives presented flowers to the retired teachers and expressed the appreciation for their continuous endeavor and excellent achievements for the development of school in the past 40 years. President Fan Libo, on behalf of the SPA, delivered a speech on the outstanding development process of SPA in the past 40 years and its future development strategy and road map with the speech keyword of “About Us” and “Our Strategic Development”. He expressed his hope that the SPA would feature ancient through modern, achieve intensive cultivation, develop characteristic discipline of customs management, actively promote international certifications of MPA project, and accelerate the pace of internationalization. President Shi Jianjun spoke highly of the achievements SPA made on schooling conditions, subject construction, scientific research, talent training, social services, international exchange over the past 40 years and conveyed his earnest expectations of SPA.
Prof. Dong Keyong, Secretary of National MPA Education Steering Committee, Xue Lan, President of SPA, Peking University delivered a speech on behalf of National MPA Education Steering Committee and Siblings Academy respectively, congratulating the remarkable achievements SPA made in the past 40 years. Alumni representatives made their statements sincerely and conveyed their appreciation to the UIBE and SPA, and their best wishes, including He Li, Vice Director of the Guangdong Branch of General Administration of Customs, Wang Donghong, Deputy Director of the Training Center of General Administration of Customs, Zhang Jinxiang, Vice Inspector of the Party and League Office, the Export-Import Bank of China and Ruan Wenting, Chairman of Xiamen Yuxin Group.

Appointment ceremony of "Part-time Professor" and "MPA Off-Campus Mentors" was also hold during the meeting, so as to promote development in the discipline construction, strengthen the contacts between School and substantive departments and attract off-campus talent to participate in School teaching, research and other academic work.

In the afternoon of 30th, two academic forums of anniversary series was held at the same time, which were “Trade Facilitation and Customs Deepening Reform—the Second Session of the High-End Customs Management Forum" and "2015 Institutional Regulation and Governance under the New Normal Context". Well-known experts and scholars from General Administration of Customs, Beijing Re-code Trade Security and Facilitation Institute, Peking University and Lin Guijun, Deputy Principal of UIBE, as representatives, expanded in-depth exchange and dialogue, shared the experience and built consensus around the theme of “Impact of Global Value Chain Development on Trade Policy” “China Customs Clearance Time Efficiency Research”“Top-Down Design for National Overseas Think-Tank” “FTA Development Model and Trade Facilitation Improvement” “One Belt One Road”. Well-known experts and scholars, taking economic new normal as big background, conducted cross-border exchange of managerial wisdom, multidimensional focus on China's future, who were from American George Mason University, China Culture University (Taiwan), Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, National School of Administration, Beijing Normal University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Chinese Academy of social sciences, and Beijing Youth League. The discussed issues included the role of finance in building innovation system, competition policy under Sino-US bilateral investment agreement, selection of employment policy, Government governance and innovation and venture, Government itself capacity construction, environment governance of service industry, and work innovation exploration of Beijing youth "

Meanwhile, to promote alumni work, SPA also organized the "Alumni Symposium" and conducted dialogue and seminars on issues of subject construction and talent training. Alumni expressed their views, which aroused enthusiastic response. The whole celebration activity came to an end at 6:00pm successfully .

The 40th anniversary of SPA not only showed the historical heritage of several generations’ endeavor on the education, but also highlighted the development status of pursing innovation development, achieving breakthrough by hard-working and opening a way for future with carrying the past.
